Comparing 9, the short film, and 9, the full length film
The short version of the film is about 8-10 minutes long, although it is short it explains the story as well as a full film. Watching it I was very engaged and interested in what their goal was. This film was about the puppet,9, trying to reach the goal of figuring out what the glowing object was trying to produce. The film managed to construct a series of flashbacks that allowed the audience to have a better understanding of the storyline. The story had a mood were is was easily identified by the sound and editing style. The pacing of the short film is relatively slower, ir shows reflective moments throughout the action. The setting serves to build these elements, focusing on present moments. This leaves the plot underdeveloped, as the film doesn't explore the characters in backstories in depth, In four years, 9, was adapted into a feature(full) length film. Acker expanded in the story in ways that the short couldn't the film delves into the quest to find other survivors and fight the machines, it allows for a deeper exploration of the characters' relationships.
The full-length film had more character development, with each character gaining a distinct personality. This expansion enables more emotional arcs, particularly when characters face betrayal. Some characters, such as 1, 2, and 8, feel less fleshed out in comparison. The special effects in the feature film are more refined than in the short. Scenes like the action scenes are more complex , featuring landscapes. Overall, the feature film follows a more tradition narrative structure, with a clear plot sequence. Its themes are more thoroughly explored, and the conflict between the creations and their creators is given more attention. However, this also reduces some of the film's open-ended interpretion.
