Horror - Hereditary




What conventions of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have?
        - I am going to base my final task on conventions like lighting and set. The movie Hereditary takes place in the family's house and tree house in the woods. Woods are typically associated with darkness and mystery. It creates an ominous mood leaving the watcher at the edge of their seat. This movie is mainly filmed in dark lighting. This type of lighting adds a darker tone to the film. Darkness is often correlated with evil or death.  

What conventions of the genre did the movie have that you liked?

        - This movie had amazing acting. There were multiple scenes were the actors had to act out serious emotions like anger and sadness. These emotions were shown through the characters actions like violently screaming, crying, and throwing fits. The acting felt authentic and natural making the audience feel a true sense of fear.

What conventions of the genre did the movie have that did not appeal to you and you are not thinking of not filming for your final task? 

        - A convention of the horror genre that this movie included that I will not be including in my final task is the makeup. This movie used fake blood to show the characters severe injuries. The makeup in this film was very natural and minimalistic. I will not be using fake blood in my final task.

Editing Blog: Part 2

 Hey Blogger! In the previous blog, I stoped the editing at the photo montage. Now we continue. Not even going to hold you, I procrastinated wanting to edit. Then I remember this work isn't just for me, it's a group grade.That way of thinking gave me an extra push to finally continue. When I was actually going back and looking the footage was there, a lot needed cuts. There just a bunch of clips of us laughing and breaking character. It was so funny to go and look back on. Moving forward the editing became a group collective. Maria worked on the title sequence, since it was her amazing idea. I just added the scene of her pulling out the knife and walking then I cut it to the scene of her looking Alyssa. For this part I kept it simple since, that's what most movies do when it's a scene like that. Also, since there's a tilt and pan for those scenes, additionally things weren't really necessary.
